When most think about maritime salvage, they’re thinking about raising shipwrecks from the ocean floor. While this task is generally a lower priority for clients – unless, of course, the shipwreck is causing a dangerous obstruction or causing damage to the coastal environment – it’s a service we regularly offer. This allows owners to recover parts of their vessels, along with some cargo, plus it makes identifying the reason for sinking that much simpler.
Before attempting the recovery of a sunken vessel, we will of course carry out significant planning, to ensure the operation is as effective, safe, and cost-efficient as possible. Through proper planning, we also ensure your vessel is raised in the shortest time possible.
There are several ways to raise sunken ships from the seabed, but the most common method uses flotation devices to bring the shipwreck to the surface. The client can then decide what to do with the wreck: they can either recover it for further examination, or the boat can be taken to deeper waters and scuttled, providing it’s safe to do so.
